POKOTABI / Hana
個室呑処~華~hana
Located on the 2th floor of an Ueno building, Hana serves delicate oden, dashi-simmered clams, and rolled omelettes alongside sake and an extensive selection of Western spirits until late.
01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
Climb the stairs from the energetic streets of Ueno, and Hana offers a welcome retreat from the surrounding downtown hum. The space balances the warm informality of an izakaya with the subdued, composed tone of a late-night bar, providing a relaxed backdrop for quiet conversation or small-group gatherings.
The food revolves around homestyle Japanese plates and Kyoto-style obanzai, underpinned by carefully simmered dashi broth. Generous oden platters hold tender daikon radish and beef tendon steeped in clear, savory soup, while steamed clams with sake and butter showcase concentrated seafood sweetness alongside fluffy dashi-rolled omelettes. Further hot plates and chilled appetizers support the drinks menu, from a 3-kind sashimi assortment to crisp chikuwa fried with aonori seaweed and pork stir-fried with eggplant in sweet miso.
The beverage program stands out for its unexpected breadth. Diners can select across sweet to dry sakes,本格 shochus such as Mitake and Nakamura, or turn to single-malt whiskies and prestige Champagnes. A 2-hour all-you-can-drink option covers draft beer and citrus sours, making the room adaptable to structured banquets and spontaneous drop-ins alike.
Seating includes a solo-friendly counter alongside private rooms separated from the main floor. Open until 3:00 the following morning from Monday to Friday, Hana functions just as easily for dinner as it does for an unhurried nightcap well past midnight.
